This coloring and activity book is based on a long-ago method of helping children learn to count. Ledger art grew out of the tradition of the Plains Indians, who drew pictures on buffalo hides to tell the stories and history of their people.

After the buffalo were gone, these tribal people drew their picture stories in the ledger books similar to those used by store owners to do their bookkeeping.
